A significant event that unites all professionals in the field of intellectual property - VIII International Intellectual Property Forum (IPF-2021) was held in Kyiv on June 23, 2021.
This year the forum started with a discussion of the administrative part of IP reform, a new round of which began in 2020 after the adoption of the Law of Ukraine №703-IX On Amendments to Certain Legislative Acts of Ukraine on the Establishment of National Intellectual Property Authority.
The moderator of the first session was Michael Doubinsky, Managing partner of Doubinsky & Osharova.
The panelists discussed important issues for further developing of the IP sphere:
- implementation of Law №703, delineation of powers of the Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and National Intellectual Property Authority;
- Ukrpatent as National Intellectual Property Authority: mechanisms of action, achievements, problems, organizational issues - view from inside;
- Appeals Chamber after the reform: new functions, powers, procedures, composition and rules. Distribution of functions and powers of the Appeals Chamber and National Intellectual Property Authority;
- view of market representatives: new risks and opportunities, as well as the role of government agencies in ensuring the implementation of legislative changes;
- USPTO: structure, activities, current experience, issues and recommendations for Ukraine.
